Lawyer in Husum

1843 – At first Storm works in his father’s office. At the beginning of the year he opened his own law firm. In Husum he founded a mixed choir (that still exists today). Publications in Biernatzki’s Volksbuch auf das Jahr 1844. Together with the brothers Theodor and Tycho Mommsen Storm published self-written poems in Liederbuch dreier Freunde.

1844 – Engagement to his cousin Constanze Esmarch, daughter of the mayor of Segeberg; beginning of an extensive correspondence (1844–1846). Participation in the Nordfriesenfest in Bredstedt.

1845 – Moving into the house Neustadt 56. Karl Müllenhoff sents the collection of sagas with many contributions from Storm to printing.

1846 – Marriage to Constanze. Further work for the Volksbücher.

1847 – Love affair with Dorothea Jensen, passionate love poems, e.g. Rote Rosen. First published story Marthe und ihre Uhr in Biernatzki’s Volksbuch.

1849 – Storm is committed to the national Independence of Schleswig-Holstein. Immensee(1st edition).

1850 – Defeat of Schleswig-Holstein at Idstedt. Bombardement of Friedrichstadt.

1851 – With the publication of the 2nd edition of ImmenseeStorm became known as a poet in the German-speaking world.

1852 – Storm’s appointment as a lawyer is revoked, because he is not ready to give a declaration of loyalty to the Danish Crown. Job search, first trip to Berlin. The first collection of his Gedichteis published.
